Role Overview: Assistant Director (School Improvement Coordinators)
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) is seeking to appoint six (6) Provincial School Improvement Support Coordinators (Ref No: DBE/52/2026) under Branch: Delivery and Support. These are contract positions offering a salary of R487 197 per annum. The roles are distributed across three provinces: Eastern Cape (Mandela Bay, Sarah Baartman, Alfred Nzo East/West, Amathole West, Buffalo City), KwaZulu-Natal (Zululand, Umzinyathi), and Mpumalanga (Bohlabela).
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following education and experience credentials:
- An NQF level 6 qualification in Education recognized by SAQA, including professional teacher education.
- SACE registration as a professional educator.
- Three (3) years of experience at a supervisory level.
- At least three (3) years of experience as a deputy principal or principal.
- A minimum of eight (8) years of classroom teaching experience.
- A valid driver’s license and possession of own transport.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinators will work directly with school circuit managers to implement data-driven approaches to school improvement. You will participate in multi-disciplinary teams to execute interventions aimed at rising teaching standards. Tasks include monitoring circuit priorities, refining responsive turnaround strategies, writing progress reports for the DBE, and ensuring sustainable school-level capacity building.
