Role Overview: Parole Board Chairperson
The Minister of Correctional Services invites applications to serve as a Chairperson of the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board. The term of office is five (5) years. Remuneration is based on Category D, sub-category D1 of statutory board rates set by National Treasury. Key regional openings exist in Kimberley (Ref: FSNC 2026/07/12), Polokwane (Ref: LMN 2026/07/01), Rooigrond (Ref: LMN 2026/07/02), Allandale (Ref: WC 2026/07/01), Brandvlei, Breede River, Southern Cape, Voorberg, and West Coast.
Requirements & Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following credentials:
- A recognized NQF level 7 qualification in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in a management or decision-making position.
- Proven ability to evaluate large volumes of evidence and identify security risks under tight deadlines.
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- No retired professionals with restrictions or medical unfitness will be considered.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
The Chairperson is responsible for leading Parole Board hearings and evaluating offenders’ rehabilitation. You will weigh evidence, sentencing remarks, warrant files, and professional reports to decide whether offenders can be safely released. Duties include drafting reasoned decision summaries, managing victim invitations, and representing the Board in case of litigation.
